Oodaalolly Chocolate Art Bar Featuring Fernando Amorsolo

SAN FRANCISCO, California - Oodaalolly, the Filipino chocolate brand, announce the release of “Mayon,” a chocolate bar commemorating Filipino artist Fernando Cueto Amorsolo. This chocolate, the second in Oodaalolly’s Art Bar initiative, coincides with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the United States.

Fernando Amorsolo — First National Artist of The Philippines

In the 50 years since his passing, the impact Amorsolo has had on art in the Philippines cannot be overestimated. Oodaalolly honors his memory by looking back at his life and artwork.

Amorsolo lived during a time of dynamic change in the Philippines and the world. His art reflects these points in time, adding color and context to contemporary Filipino history. His art eventually embodies the very culture and self-image of the newly independent republic, transcending being mere wall hangings.

His paintings, appreciated worldwide, are a cultural treasure. His subjects were manifold, from the everyday to the extraordinary. His work reflects the sacred and profane with equal candor and a shy hint of hope.

His work is of the Philippines but touches all of humanity.

AAPI Heritage Month

Oodaalolly chocolate shall devote itself to its commemoration of Fernando Amorsolo during AAPI Heritage Month.

Mayon is a lightly sweetened milk chocolate bar crafted from the finest Philippine cacao. It includes siling labuyo (a chili grown in the Philippines) coated cacao nib inclusions that have been candied with coconut palm sugar.

The packaging, available in two variants, features two scenes with Mount Mayon — a volcano painted by Amorsolo several times during his career.

Art Through AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Innovation is a massive part of what makes Oodaalolly unique, and the company commissioned the commemorative artwork using an innovative approach. It employed AI neural networks trained in Amorsolo’s chiaroscuro technique using Amorsolo paintings as sample data. With this framework in place, the AI could generate original works influenced directly by, and in the style of,  Amorsolo.

Why Oodaalolly Creates Art Bars

Crafting unique, high-quality chocolate bars using Philippine cacao doesn’t happen in a vacuum.  Inspiration can come from anywhere, and the dynamic and rich art scene in the Philippines and throughout the Filipino diaspora often inspires Oodaalolly’s founders.

The company invites artists and designers to use their packaging as a canvas. Founder Hernan Lauber says, “It’s our way to highlight artists we love.”

For Mayon, a lengthy biography of the famous painter, tracing his life and highlighting several examples of his work, was researched and prepared and is available on Oodaalolly’s website.
